Barclay Paragraph:
Both Jonah Lehrer and Mark B. Boslough argue for whether science should be left alone or if a change needs to happen within. In “The Future of Science… Is Art?” Lehrer stresses that the sciences need the arts to progress our current knowledge. He states, “The current constraints of science make it clear that the breach between our two cultures is not merely an academic problem that stifles conversation at cocktail parties. Rather, it is a practical problem, and it holds back science’s theories.” According to Lehrer, arts is paramount as we have hit a plateau of what we can explain by traditional methods. In contrast, when Mark B. Boslough talks about science he believes it is fine where it is. Boslough states, “Science is sometimes slow, but it always involves making educated guesses that eventually lead to testable predictions.” The addition of the arts into the scientific field would only muddle and complicate the tried and true scientific method. Everything can be explained by science one day, it is just the instruments to do so are not here yet. While it might take a while to get results from the science field as it is a steady but ensured process, our advancements are in no way slowing down.
You chose a good quote from Bolough with which to work. I sometimes suspect that science’s own technological advancements have accelerated our world to such an extent that we forget to remember that there are many remaining and indispensable processes that just take time.
